Getting Personal | Rogue Territory

When it comes to custom clothing most people with automatically think of suits, shirts, and jackets but what about everything else you wear on a daily basis? What about the one pair of clothing that goes through the most wear and tear? Well, that is wear Karl Thoennessen steps in. Formerly in the field of marketing in San Diego Karl moved to L.A. to fill a gap. A gap that he had noticed in the denim business. And after some time of losing hope, Karl met the gentlemen at Work Custom Jeans in Echo Park where he traded marketing help for the ability to learn the trick of the trade of the custom denim business. And boy, did he learn quickly. After barely anytime Karl opened up shop in the Jean Shop at American Rag Cie. Rogue Territory was born.

In a 8' x 10' space where American Rag was about to set up a Tailor's station for their Jean Shop, Karl showed up out of nowhere and offered them the opportunity to do a little more. Karl, the one and only behind the company, has expanded the company from making any style jean you wanted from the small selection of selvage denim to making a 5 piece ready-to-wear line for the likes of Craft and expanding their custom offerings to two different price, a $400 and a $700 option. So, if you're opting of a custom pair of jeans you would be best to opt for the $700 which includes a personal measuring session by Karl himself, a consultation about the different options for fit, pockets, fabric and more, and then he pins you up to give you a rough idea of the fit which from that he makes a pattern that he keeps on file for future reference. Once he doesn't need you anymore he sits down at one of the two single needle machines to make you the best pair of jeans you can ask for. Now, all I need to do is convince Karl to use this article as payment for my pair. -- Karl, you getting this? -- But, check it out in the far back reaches of the American Rag Cie. Jean Shop and tell him Shaun sent you, not that it will get you anything. Check out some pictures of the place after the jump.

Amazing concept. Jeans are what you wear for the majority (at least I do) of time and yet, they're the one piece of clothing that I have the hardest time finding in terms of right fit, right wash, etc. Great post and pics!
